Research Scientist (RMIT) - re-advertised
Location: RMIT University (2 year contract with RMIT)

Bioproperties has a long history of collaboration with RMIT University (Bundoora West campus) and an opportunity for a talented Research Scientist to join Bioproperties is currently available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with the R&D Project Manager toward the design and implementation of manufacturing systems for new live vaccine.
- Undertake formulation development and fermentation processes under GMP/GLP standards, working at scales ranging from shake-flask to 30 L bioreactors.
- Review and contribute toward the improvement of existing manufacturing procedures.
- Design and conduct the required process validations according to cGMP regulatory standards.
- Preparation of GMP grade experimental batches of live vaccines for in-vivo and in-vitro studies.
- Proper documentation of lab experiments, data analysis and interpretations.
- Prepare SOPs, study protocols and final study reports to GCP/GLP standards.
- Provide training of staff in formulation and fermentation processes and other analytical procedures.
- Ensure all laboratory functions comply with RMIT and company Occupational Health and Safety standards.
Selection Criteria:
- Minimum MS in microbiology, industrial fermentation or related discipline.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing industry.
- Proficiency and hands-on experience with general bacteriology, fermentation optimising and scaling up processes, development of lyophilised dosage forms, method development and validation, and broad understanding of bacterial metabolism and live vaccine development.
- Strong working knowledge of SOPs, GLP and cGMPs.
- Strong scientific and technical background with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Good written and oral communication skills and good computer skills.
- Interest and ability to work effectively as a member of a dynamic team.
- Ensure appropriate statistical methods are employed in all experimental designs.
- Experience in veterinary vaccine formulation/production is an advantage.
- Ability to trouble-shoot and solve difficult problems.
